Aleja developer docs

Three ways to connect other software to Aleja nests:

Incoming webhooksGateway botsHTTP bots
What it isA secret URL that posts into one channelAn account your code signs in asAn app that receives signed events and answers over REST
DirectionPost onlyRead, reply, react, edit, deleteSlash commands in, replies out
End-to-end encryptedNo. The server can read webhook postsYes. Keys stay on the machine running the botNo. Interactions are labeled NOT E2EE
Needs code runningNo. Any HTTP client worksYes. A Node.js process using the bot SDKYes. Any HTTPS endpoint, in any language
Badge in the appWEBHOOKBOTBOT, and NOT E2EE on interactions
Who sets it upAnyone with Manage server in the nestThe owner registers it in the developer portal; someone with Manage server installs itThe same

Pick a webhook when something only needs to announce events (a deploy finished, a server went down). Pick a gateway bot when it needs to read what people say or keep the conversation private. Pick an HTTP bot for slash commands answered by a stateless service.

Apps are registered and managed in the developer portal, not in the Aleja app.

Pages

  • Features and technology: what Aleja does for people, how its privacy model works, and the stack it is built on.
  • Limits and quality tiers: character limits by field, upload and storage rules, audio and streaming quality, and what a Goose membership or a Golden Eggs tier changes.
  • Incoming webhooks: create a webhook, the request format, errors and limits.
  • Bots: how bots work, how they stay end-to-end encrypted, tokens, what they can and can't do, and slash commands.
  • Bot SDK reference: build a bot in Node.js. Events, methods, message objects and state storage.
  • Platform reference: apps, scopes, OAuth2 installs with PKCE, webhook subscriptions, HMAC-SHA256 signing, retries with exponential backoff, slash commands over HTTP, and the data model.
  • Tutorial: an HTTP bot in Rust: from an empty folder to a verified, installed bot that answers slash commands.
  • Apps: Watch Together, games and the Doodle Board that people open together in a channel. The catalog, the app SDK, sandboxing, and the HTTP and WebSocket API behind them.

These pages are built into the Aleja server and served at /docs on every API host.
